MUS 225: Foundations of Music Production (WI)

(3 hr / 3 cr) Creative Expressions, Writing Intensive. Pre-req: ENG 126 only! Learn the basics of music production, including using microphones, sequencers, MIDI, and basic workflow using a digital audio workstation. Students will work in the York College Digital Music Lab in LL02.

MUS 328: Advanced Music Production

(3 hr / 3 cr) Advanced concepts and techniques of computer-based music production. Use industry-recognized software platforms to explore the use of MIDI sequencing, digital sampling, and sound synthesis in different genres of popular music. Pre-req: MUS 225

MUS 141/241: Piano I/II

(2 hr / 1 cr) Both 141 and 241 are co-seated. No prerequisites required to enroll in MUS 141!

MUS 291: Keyboard Accompaniment

(3 hr / 2 cr) Prerequisite: MUS 223 and MUS 241. All section meeting times are TBA, and are scheduled individually with Prof. Mark Adams. 


Ensembles

MUS 138: Chorus I

(3 hr / 1 cr) Permission required. Join the brand-new Cardinal Chorus! The new chorus will meet on Monday evenings, and will perform a mix of classical and contemporary repertoire. Interested in joining? Contact Prof. George Lam to schedule an audition.

MUS 146/246/346/446: Jazz Improvisation I-IV

(3 hr / 1 cr) Permission required. All section meeting times are TBA, and are scheduled individually with Prof. Mark Adams. Please contact Prof. Adams to schedule an audition if you are interested in enrolling in Jazz Improvisation.

Studies in Performance

The York College music program offers private lessons as part of our curriculum. Students must register for both MUS x86 (Studies in Music Performance) and MUS x87 (Performance Workshop) in the same semester.

MUS 186-386 Studies in Performance

(1 hr / 1 cr) Department permission required. All sections scheduled individually with the student and instructors.

If you are interested in registering for MUS 186, please contact your advisor or the music program coordinators (Prof. Mark Adams or Dr. George Lam). New students registering for MUS 186 will need to audition with the instructor. When the student has been accepted into MUS 186, the instructor will process the permission necessary to enroll in the course on CUNYFirst.

MUS 490: Senior Recital

(3 hr / 3 cr) WI; Prerequisite: 300-level WRIT course OR 100-200 level WI course, AND departmental permission. All section meeting times are TBA. Students registering for MUS 490 may register for any section. If you are interested in working with a music faculty member in MUS 490, please contact the faculty member directly to schedule a meeting.
