The 2022 Southeast Queens Biennial is focused on New York City area artists who work primarily with abstraction. This year’s iteration, the third to be hosted by York College’s Art Gallery, will include installations at the historic King Manor Museum, a short distance from the CUNY campus. Each site was curated by Rejin Leys, who has participated in past Biennials and is deeply involved in the Jamaica arts community. The imagined environments of abstract visual art are often challenging, but always engaging. The 2022 Southeast Queens Biennial exhibits work in all its diverse manifestations by contemporary abstract artists.
Curator Biography
Rejin Leys, is a mixed-media artist and paper maker based in Southeast Queens. Her work has been widely exhibited at such venues as Centro Cultural de España, Santo Domingo, DR; Kentler International Drawing Space, NY; Queens Museum, NY; and Les Ateliers J.R. Jerome, PaP, Haiti. Leys is a recipient of numerous grants and fellowships from organizations such as New York Foundation for the Arts and Queens Council on the Arts. Her work is in the collections of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Yale University, and Caribbean Studies at Rutgers University.
