Judas Iscariot is considered one of the greatest villains of all time, a traitor to Jesus, he betrayed his Lord for 30 pieces of silver. Dante placed him in the Ninth Ring of Hell along with Lucifer. Stephen Adly Guirgis's Judas is in purgatory awaiting judgment for his crime. The setting is a courtroom where a lawyer argues that even Judas is worthy of forgiveness. The trial is on, and the story takes the audience on a dark, irreverent and sometimes funny journey through time and space as we encounter figures from the past such as Pontius Pilate, Sigmund Freud, and Mother Teresa and spiritual figures such as St. Peter and even Satan. But the ultimate question this play asks is should Judas be forgiven?
