York to Add Women’s Soccer in Fall 2011

The York College athletics program is pleased to announce the addition of women’s soccer as the 17th NCAA Division III sport to its program. The Lady Cardinals will compete in women’s soccer starting in the Fall 2011 season.

Assistant men’s soccer coach Kafui Kouakou will serve as the head coach for the Lady Cardinals inaugural season.  He will still maintain his position as assistant men’s coach as well.

“The CUNY Athletic Conference has been hoping that we would add women’s soccer so that the conference could receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships,” said Athletic Director Ronald St. John.  “It’s been a long time coming. We’ve been trying to add women’s soccer for quite some time…With at least five players committed to the team from the PSAL Championship squad at Richmond Hill High School, we are hoping that program will start off strong.”

Those who may be interested in joining the women’s soccer team should call the athletics office at 718-262-5101 or stop by the Health and Physical Education Building.  If you are a team looking to schedule a game with York, contact John Scarinci, Sports Information Director at 718-262-5104.
