York Hosts NY1 for Post-Election Breakfast Discussion
On Friday, November 8th, York College/CUNY hosted the latest in its Executive Leadership Breakfast Series. The breakfast featured Errol Louis, host of NY1’s "Inside City Hall" and Bob Hardt, political director of NY1 News, as commentators.
The event brought out an impressive crowd for the discussion on, “Post-Election Analysis and Implications for 2014.” Louis and Hardt shared their opinion on the election, which saw the triumph of Bill de Blasio as the next mayor of New York City.
York’s president, Dr. Marcia V. Keizs, presided over the event, and reminded the audience that it was eight years ago after Hurricane Katrina, that York founded the Executive Leadership Breakfast Series and discussed strategies for the possibility that such a catastrophe would impact Queens. Congressman Gregory Meeks and Larry Mendell who was then president and chief executive of the United Way, were the panelists for that forum. Ironically, it was a similar hurricane that required York to serve as an evacuation site during and in the aftermath, of Hurricane Sandy, when the college suspended classes and hosted nearly 1000 evacuees for almost two weeks.
Moderated by York distinguished lecturer of Political Science, Dr. Ron Daniels, the discussion by the two political journalists engaged the audience, which consisted of community leaders, students and faculty of the college and students and a faculty member from Fredrick Douglas High School. Among the special guests were Tuskegee Airman Julius Freeman, Herman Lamont, Consul General of Jamaica; Assemblywoman Vivian Cook, Councilman Leroy Comrie, Borough President Helen Marshall, Congressman Gregory Meeks, Councilman-elect Daneek Miller and Brian Simon and Cruz Russell of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
