York College Student Launches Non-Profit

Samentha Regnier, a graduating senior at York College and Community Service Chair for the York chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), has developed the skills to be a leader, impacting those around her both here in New York and abroad.

"I have taken everything I learnt from the NSLS; Leadership Training Day, Success Networking Team meetings and developed a way to help those less fortunate than we are," said Regnier. "Through a recent trip to Haiti, my friend came back with a plan to help students in Leogane (Haiti) fund their education. With the skills I have obtained through the NSLS, we gathered our team and created our own non-profit organization called, "Keys of the Heart Incorporated." We have been hosting fundraisers, and bringing awareness to the difficulties these children face."

With very little funding, Regnier and her team have been able to send a number of students to school for an entire year. They are now pursuing various other avenues to continue providing these services to the children in Leogane.
