Women's Tennis Wins in First Ever Match

It didn’t take long for the York College women’s tennis team to earn its first victory in the program’s history. The Lady Cardinals, who were competing in their first match ever, defeated conference-foe John Jay College, 7-2 on Thursday afternoon.

After dropping one of the doubles matches, York went on to win five of the six the singles matches.  Valerie Roland earned a come-from-behind win at first singles with a 2-6, 7-5, (10-5) win over John Jay’s Ashley Marrero.   At third singles, Ashley Willock made quick work of her opponent, winning 6-1, 6-2.  Amba Pika and Andrea Tillman also won easily for York.

York, 1-0, will host CCNY on Saturday at noon.
