State Supports Capital Request
I am pleased to announce that the 2014-15 New York State Budget agreement announced earlier this week by Governor Andrew Cuomo and the leadership of the State Senate and Assembly, includes $30 million in capital funding toward York College's proposed Academic Village and Conference Center (AVCC).
This is very encouraging news for this highly anticipated and necessary addition to our campus. The 162,180 gross square-foot AVCC, will house the college's School of Business and Information Systems, student affinity spaces, enrollment management offices and a state-of-the-art conference center that will be used by the college and the Queens community. The AVCC will be built at an estimated cost of more than $250 million.
I am thankful to the governor, the State Legislature, the University Chancellery and our faculty and staff who have supported this effort. I also applaud and thank our students who were part of the college's delegation that went to Albany along with other CUNY students, faculty and administrators for a day of advocacy on behalf of the various CUNY capital projects.
I will be sending a note of thanks to our legislators who have once again risen to York's call for support. I will keep you apprised of any new developments on the nine-story complex as we continue to pursue this important expansion of our campus.
