In this August 27, 2023 interview, Professor Sharpe weighs in on how factors, such as attacks on voting rights, challenges to community building during a time of uncivil discourse, and the rise of political movements, impact the history and future of American democracy. Professor Sharpe is a Professor of Political Science at York College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and a Adjunct Research Scholar at Columbia University’s Weatherhead East Asian Institute. Dr. Sharpe’s areas of expertise are comparative politics and international relations, and his research interests concern the politics of migration, immigrant political incorporation, and political transnationalism in the Netherlands, Japan, and around the world.
