Professor Appointed Vice Chair of National Ethics Committee

Assistant professor of philosophy Timothy W. Kirk, PhD, has been appointed Vice Chair of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) ethics committee.

Dr. Kirk will help oversee a group of 25 hospice practice leaders and researchers across the United States, and serve as a liaison between the committee and similar groups around the world.  

The ethics committee writes and reviews position statements and offers clinical, policy, and legislative guidance on ethics-related issues in hospice and palliative care to the over 3,500 NHPCO member hospices around the country that care for over 1,000,000 patients per year.


The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) is the largest nonprofit membership organization representing hospice and palliative care programs and professionals in the United States. The organization is committed to improving end of life care and expanding access to hospice care with the goal of profoundly enhancing quality of life for people dying in America and their loved ones.
