Power Interruptions November 25-29

As you may be aware, the electric supply to the college is being relocated from below to above ground. This ongoing work is part of a larger project to address water infiltration into the sub-basement of the A Core. The project has required power interruptions occasionally in various locations of the campus. Another such interruption will take place over the Thanksgiving Holiday. The duration of the shut down will be from 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25 to the evening of Sunday, November 29. The interruption will affect various locations in the A Core, HPE and PAC buildings during the interruption. The college’s web site, mail and internet servers will also be disrupted during the power interruption. Telephone service will be unaffected, including text messaging.

As the interruption will affect different locations at different times for an unspecified period of time, it is recommended that you turn off all electrical equipment before leaving your office on Wednesday as a precaution against an electrical surge when power is resumed. If there is a refrigerator in your area when food or other perishable items are stored, please remove those items from the refrigerator.

All non-essential personnel are asked to vacate the campus by 8:00 p.m. on the evening of Wednesday, November 25. Only essential personnel will be permitted on campus during the power interruption. Public Safety will begin to check all buildings at 8:00 p.m. to ensure they are vacated. All parking lots will close at 9:00 p.m. If you require access to the campus during the power interruption, please inform Public Safety. Please use the loading dock gate to access the A Core during the interruption.

If there are concerns about the effect that the power interruption may have on experiments, animals, computers or other equipment, and communications technology, please contact Mr. George Fellows, Mr. Joseph Goffredo or Mr. Peter Tighe about your specific concern.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
