Notice from VP Ronald Thomas

Several weeks ago Chief Tyrone Forte announced his intention to leave York College to accept the position of Director of Public Safety at Kingsborough Community College. Chief Forte joined the York College Public Safety Department in 1997 and moved through the ranks to become Director of Public Safety in 2008.

During his tenure as Chief he is credited with helping to keep York College among the safest campuses in CUNY and with introducing innovative programs including bicycle patrols, customer-service/ambassador training for public safety personnel and the department's annual staff recognition event. It was perhaps during one of the college's most challenging periods, Super Storm Sandy, that Chief Forte was at his finest. He was the college's field liaison with the New York City Office of Emergency Management and other government agencies, and was responsible for site operations around the clock throughout the three week emergency, during which the college sheltered approximately 1,000 of our fellow New Yorkers. Chief Forte's last day at York will be Monday, July 14.

On behalf of President Keizs and the entire York College community, I would like to thank Chief Forte for his invaluable service to the college over the past seventeen years and wish him every success in his new position.

I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Ms. Dawn Smallwood as our Acting Chief of Public Safety, effective Tuesday, July 15. Ms. Smallwood is on loan from the Office of Public Safety at the central administration. She is already on campus working with Chief Forte to help facilitate a smooth transition.
