Notice from President Keizs, Re. York College's Charter Revision
Please review this document carefully, discuss it in your departments, and be prepared to vote on this item at a special meeting of the Senate being called on February 10, 2015 at 12:30 pm in Room 2M04.
These changes build upon the work of the Ad Hoc Committee and modifications added by the Faculty Caucus and Student Caucus during the 2014 Charter Amendment voting process. The document focuses primarily on revising the composition, function, and procedures of the Senate Standing Committees and adding two new standing committees (governance and resources). Other amendments are necessary to align election procedures with the CUNY Bylaws and other election mandates from the Board of Trustees as well as recognizing the authority of the New York State Open Meetings Law, 1977 and the Perez v CUNY Decision. There are no amendments affecting the plenary body of the Senate.
The 1986 York College Charter requires that four weeks must pass between the reading of the proposed Charter into the Plenary minutes and the final vote. This vote will take place at a special session of the Senate Plenary to be held on February 10, 2015 in Room 2MO4, 12:30 - 2:00 PM.
Should you have amendments to the proposed amendments, they should be forwarded as follows by close of business on January 14, 2015 as follows:
- Faculty to the Faculty Caucus Leader, Professor Theresa Rooney, email@example.com
- Students to the Student Caucus President, Shaikh Amin, firstname.lastname@example.org
- Administrators to the Executive Director of Compliance and Legal, Olga Dais, email@example.com
These lead individuals above are asked to submit final versions of any proposed amendments to the Office of the President attention Dean Dinello, firstname.lastname@example.org, by close of business January 21, 2015.
