New York City Public Advocate Williams Visits York

New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams visited York College, CUNY today, meeting primarily with students to learn more about York College and to discuss his advocacy for public higher education.

Dr. Berenecea J. Eanes, interim president of York College, was among those meeting with Public Advocate Williams, himself the product of a CUNY education.

“It was a pleasure meeting Public Advocate Williams on campus today,” said President Eanes. “This will be a morale booster for our students as the semester ends and they prepare for finals. As Mr. Williams’ success demonstrates, a CUNY education is the best value in higher education in our city. Every year York students move on to graduate or professional schools and meaningful careers because of the rigorous education they receive here. In my first few months at York, I have been evaluating our needs; we look forward to completing our strategic plan as well as working on a plan to improve our facilities.”

According to York student leaders, Williams plans to visit at least one CUNY campus in each of the five boroughs; and United Student Senate leaders, of whom one is a York student, recommended to his staff that he starts with York. He toured the campus and held a press conference following the visit.
