Nepal Disaster Counseling Support and Relief Effort Notice
Dear York College Community:
A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Nepal on April 25, ripping across Nepal and the surrounding region -Tibet, India, and Bangladesh. More than 7,000 people have been killed and thousands of homes and buildings were destroyed in the quake and the resulting aftershocks.
Many of our York College students have extended family members and friends in that region and may have been affected by this destruction directly or indirectly. Counselors at the York College Counseling Center are available to anyone who is in need of extra support at this time. If this applies to you, please call (718) 262-2272, or stop in the Center in Room AC-1G03.
This is a time for us to come together and help each other by being supportive to those in need. You can show you care about a friend who might be worried about his or her family. Offering a listening ear, having a meal together and maybe studying together could be of help during this very stressful time. Students may also learn how to help those impacted by visiting the Counseling Center webpage.
To raise emergency relief funds, the York College Student Government Association (SGA) will be collecting donations. Funds collected by the SGA will go toward rescue and treatment efforts in Nepal and the region. If you would like to volunteer time to assist with collecting funds, please sign-up in the SGA Office, which is located in Room - 1G04.
