Announcement from President Keizs, Re: Dr. Geneva Walker-Johnson

Dr. Geneva Walker-Johnson, vice president for Student Development for the past three years, has notified me that she will retire at the end of the calendar year.

VP Walker-Johnson has cared deeply about students and their needs and provided the leadership that makes a difference in matters of student life.

I thank her for her many contributions to the Student Development Department and appreciate the knowledge and staffing that she brought to the department and her assistance in developing her leadership team. Dr. Walker-Johnson has participated in York's growth and expansion as it addressed the academic needs of our students and the broader demands of the community.

Her contribution to the establishment of our ROTC program, as well as her deft handling of welcoming back our students to campus following Hurricane Sandy; and her thoughtfulness toward students on the long lines at the start of each semester, are among the tangible and intangible service the vice president brought to bear at York.

As she now prepares to phase into retirement, I ask you all to join me in thanking Vice President Walker-Johnson for her fine service and in wishing her the very best.

Effective January 1, 2015 and until a search can be launched, Dr. Vincent Banrey will assume the role of administrator in charge of Student Development.

Thank you.
