Having organized multiple medical missions to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake and an extensive medical/surgical and administrative background, Jonas Scholar, Margarett Alexandre, has always been active in Global Nursing Leadership.

Jonas Scholar, Margarett Alexandre, created the first elective nursing course at CUNY York College, which affords students the opportunity to be engaged in providing much needed care, all the while working alongside medical professionals in underserved/ under-resourced countries such as Haiti and the Free Republic of Moldova.

With a strong emphasis on social justice, the students create educational activities based on researched health burdens of the countries as well incorporating the sustainable development goals in their practice, it is important for the students to understand advocacy can result in improvements to services and quality of life for the profession, their patients, their community and the world in which they live.
