In the Event of an Active Shooter Incident...

Due to recent shootings on college campuses, including the shooting at Umpqua Community College on October 1, 2015, the York College Department of Public Safety would like to provide you with valuable information that may be useful in the event of an active shooter incident on campus.

The video at the link below was prepared by the FBI.  It discusses and demonstrates what should be done in the event of an “active shooter” on campus.  An "active shooter" is defined as an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area; in most cases, active shooters use firearms(s) and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims.

As a department we continue to engage in training and exercises to better prepare to respond to “an active shooter” incident.  The Department of Public Safety strongly encourages all members of the college community to watch the video, to stay alert and report any suspicious activity you observe on campus.

Please visit the Public Safety website to view the video.  We hope you find the video informative and helpful, and that you continue to remain safe.
