End of Semester Message From President Marcia V. Keizs

As we close out our spring 2014 semester, I am delighted to congratulate our graduating students on a job well done! As president, I am truly proud of your accomplishments and I am cheer-leading your continued success as you proceed to graduate schools and careers.

For those students who have not yet reached this milestone and will still be with us next year, congratulations. You have just completed another successful semester toward your goal. You are a step closer. To accelerate your completion date, review our summer course offerings and take a class or two. I applaud your commitment and encourage you to stay the course to its successful conclusion.

I extend thanks to our dedicated faculty who invest in our students and institution, even as you try to build your own scholarship portfolios. It is to this end that I congratulate Dr. Vadim Moldovan on his Fulbright Fellowship to Moldova; and Dr. Linda Perry, on her Fulbright Specialist Award, which will take her to Spain and elsewhere.

These announcements from our professors certainly add to the spirit of celebration around commencement. We appreciate faculty scholarship as much as we applaud our students' and alumni success stories.

Recent alumni news include 2013 graduate, Robert Fernandez' $90,000 Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans. This impressive fellowship will help fund his PhD studies in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University.

Debra Whorms, last year's valedictorian, has informed us that she will be attending medical school at Harvard University. Her choices included Johns Hopkins, Columbia, and New York University.

And AliSyed, '12, will attend West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Please join me in wishing them all the very best in these important fields of study. I congratulate their York mentors, Dr. Anne Simon, Dr. Ruel Desamero and Dr. Shao-Ying Hua, respectively.

And back to our graduating class, I look forward to seeing you at your respective commencement ceremonies. Again, well done, Class of 2014!
