A Message to York's Students

Dear York College Student,

As you already know, York College is on an instructional recess from March 12-March 18. All face-to-face instructional activities stopped on Thursday, March 12, 2020. All courses scheduled online or partly online, (WEB or Hybrid), are continuing with their instruction online uninterrupted.

On Thursday, March 19, 2020, all instructional activities currently on recess will start again. All courses that can be taught using distance learning methods will switch to online teaching. Some courses that cannot be taught online using distance learning will be directed about the resumption of their schedules, these will be taught face-to-face. More details about how your classes will be taught will follow next week prior to the 19th.

The faculty and staff of York College are working diligently to transition to distance learning. In doing so, the Center for Teaching Learning and Educational Technologies (CTLET) has increased its training workshops to prepare you for the Distance Learning Education Modules.

To take the online courses on BlackBoard (Bb), please follow the steps below:

Please complete a short self-paced learning course, by following the instructions below.

  1. Login to Bb: on the York College website,
  2. Click Current Students > Online Services > Blackboard.
  3. Use your CUNYfirst login credentials to log in.
  4. On the Bb Home page, look for the panel "Training Courses for York Students."
  5. Click “Are You Ready for Online Courses?”
  6. Click Submit to enroll yourself into the course. 
  7. Complete the assignments following the instructions.
  8. If you complete all assignments successfully, you will obtain a certificate.

Also, please keep in mind that the York College campus is open. All offices and student services are available during normal business hours for transactions and to support your studies. These services and offices include the Collaborative Learning Center, the Math Learning Center, Women’s Center, Men’s Center, Veteran’s Center, Student Counseling, SEEK, the Academic Advisement Center, Library, the Offices of Admissions, Bursar, Financial Aid, Registrar, Health Services, Child Care, Disability Services and all Academic and Administrative Offices. Please consult with the college’s website for their schedule and hours of operation. The IT Help Desk (718-262-5300) is operational, the Help Desk Support through YConnect (web based self-service portal for students, faculty, and staff) is also available. You can call these offices with your questions and concerns.

We want to be mindful that capacity to access devices other than smart phones and internet access at home might be a challenge. Please take a moment to answer this quick survey so we can begin to identify student need and develop solutions. Your responses are important to us.
