Death of a Recent York Grad

It is with heartfelt regret that I have to announce the death of a recent York College graduate and Speech Communication/Theatre Arts major, Dominique Jamison, Class of 2012. Jamison died early on the morning of December 30th in a tragic car accident near JFK, Queens.

Dominique joined the undergraduate Speech Communication/Theatre Arts program in Fall 2010 as a transfer student from Borough of Manhattan Community College and immediately took center stage in the York College Theatre's production of FAME The Musical. Dominique's continued dedication to her art and her education shined only brighter as she took on more demanding roles in Don Juan in Chicago and Macbeth. Her talent, her character, her conviction and her love of family, had gained her so much deserved recognition among the faculty, staff and students at York.

Each and every student contributes in no small measure to the vibrant community that we create together at York College. I know that the loss of any student, particularly in so tragic and senseless a manner, grievously wounds us all, and through it unites a community. May we forever find ways to keep our memories of her alive.

President Keizs and Provost Griffith join the Department in expressing our deepest sympathies to Dominique's parents, family and to everyone who loved her and everyone she loved. We will provide you with information when it becomes available about funeral arrangements.
