Dabo Scores 1,000th Career Point as York Routs City Tech
York College senior Maimouna Dabo became the fifth York College women’s basketball player to reach the 1,000 point plateau in a 69-31 thumping of conference-rival City Tech Wednesday evening.
Dabo netted 13 points and now stands at 1,001 in her tenure at York and is the first Lady Cardinal to reach the milestone since Garianne Brown in 2003. The game was never really in question for York, the only question was if Dabo would be able to reach 1,000 by the end of the night. After scoring nine points in the first half, it took all the way until the 3:46 mark of the second half to reach the necessary 12 points, which came on the front end of two free throws. She hit the second free throw as well to round out her scoring for the night.
The Cardinals forced a season-high 45 turnovers in the victory, which they converted to 38 points. York opened up a 38-16 halftime cushion and continued to expand its lead throughout the second half.
York was led by Shadae Rice who finished with 17 points on 8-11 shooting, while handing out three assists and grabbing five boards. Dabo finished with eight assists in addition to her 13 points and Elizabeth Padilla paced the Lady Cardinals with ten points. City Tech was led by Datarra Darden who had ten points and ten boards.
York (8-12, 5-3 CUNYAC) will return to action on Friday when they visit Medgar Evers College at 6:00 p.m.
