College Closure Wednesday

Dear York College Community,

I write to let you know that an employee who was last on campus on Friday, March 13th, fell ill on Saturday with serious symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

He has been referred for testing but because of his level of symptoms and that he was on campus less than 24 hours before developing them, we don’t think we should wait until the test results to take action.

For the safety of our community we will be CLOSING YORK COLLEGE campus (all buildings) on WEDNESDAY March 18th. Unless otherwise notified, faculty, staff and students should stay home. We will use the day tomorrow to deep clean all campus buildings. We are in the process of notifying individuals who may have worked with or near the employee.

I know this news is not easy. I want to reiterate the medical guidance:  if you experience symptoms such as a fever, cough and difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, please seek medical attention. If you don’t have a health care provider and are concerned about exposure, please call the NYC COVID-19 hotline (888-364-3065).

Your safety and health are my priority. If you have particular concerns, please contact the Campus COVID-19 liaison, Dana Trimboli at dtrimboli@york.cuny.edu

Our thoughts are with the impacted staff member and their family, as well as the entire campus and CUNY community as we navigate this uncharted territory.

Please continue to visit the York College website and social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) which is updated with the latest information.
