Bridging the Gap Faculty Development Seminar Invitation
The seminar will be facilitated by CETL Director Debra Swoboda, will explore key aspects of learning including the topics of:
- prior knowledge;
- deep vs. surface learning;
- metacognition and the self-directed learner; and
- practice and feedback.
Readings from the text How Learning Works: Seven Research-Based Principles for Smart Teaching (Ambrose, Bridges, and Lovett, 2010) will be used to support seminar discussion.
Seminar participants will meet 2-4pm on Thursdays six (6) times during the spring 2015 semester. Faculty members who participate in the seminar will be expected to implement new teaching strategies during the fall 2015 semester based on what they have learned. Seminar participation will be limited to eight (8) full-time faculty members. Participants will receive a stipend of $500 in summer 2015 for their participation.
