York Students Lobby in Albany

From February 14 through 16, Interim President Berenecea Johnson Eanes, with a delegation of student leaders and staff, attended the New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators Inc.’s Annual Caucus in Albany.

The students were able to experience lobbying legislators on behalf of York College and CUNY, meet Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez, and much more. Dr. Eanes and students also attended workshops conducted by the state legislators and invited specialists in business and the non-profit sectors.

On the last night of the conference (Sunday), they attended the Annual Gala, where they met and posed for photos with US Senator Charles “Chuck” Schumer, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clark and her mother, CUNY Trustee Una S. T. Clark, and others. While in the state capital, Dr. Jean Phelps, director of Student Activities at York, also received the Vivian E. Cook Award.
