AASCU President to Deliver Keynote

President of American Association of State Colleges and Universities Dr. Muriel A. Howard To Deliver Keynote Address at York College Conference

American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) President Muriel A. Howard is the featured speaker at a mini conference at York College, Thursday. October 22, 2009, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., in the Faculty Dining Room, Academic Core Building, 94-20 Guy R. Brewer Blvd., Jamaica, NY.  The theme of the conference is “Reorganization, Innovation, Excellence.” The conference will focus on examining how reorganizing 18 academic departments into three schools - Arts and Sciences, Business and Information Systems and Health and Behavioral Sciences - will enhance the College’s instructional and research pursuits.

AASCU is the leadership association of 430 public colleges and universities. Enrolling more than three million students, these institutions fulfill the expectations of a public university by working for the public good through education, stewardship and engagement. Howard is the first African-American to lead one of the 6 presidentially based higher education associations in Washington, D.C.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Howard deliver the Keynote at the conference,” said York College President Marcia V. Keizs. “We look forward to her sharing her vision with us.” The conference panel, moderated by Provost Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith, will include Dr. Leslie Keiler, Teacher Education Department; Dr. Gerry McNeil, Chair of the Department of Biology; Acting Dean Harry Rosen, School of Business and Information Systems; Dr. Debra Swoboda, Director, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning; and Jahi Rose, student and Business major, Class of 2010.
