A graduating Teacher Education student has been named salutatorian of the York College Class of 2026 and is ready to embrace the responsibilities of a career in teaching.

Redda Das, a Childhood Education major with a minor in Psychology, is the daughter of immigrants from Bangladesh. She is the middle child of their three children and credits her family’s journey as a powerful source of inspiration for her success.

“My family’s journey has been a constant source of motivation,” Das said. “My parents always had a passion for learning but were unable to pursue their educational dreams. Seeing their dedication instilled in me a deep appreciation for education and the opportunities it can create.”

Their experiences strengthened her commitment to higher education and to a career in the field. “From a young age, I understood that education is both a gateway to opportunity and a privilege,” she said. “I’ve been inspired by educators who have shaped the lives of their students and communities, and I hope to do the same.”

Reflecting on her achievement, Das expressed both pride and purpose. “I’m proud not just for myself, but for my department,” she said. “I hope to make a meaningful impact on students and inspire the next generation, especially those from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.”

Faculty members praised her accomplishments and character and proudly shared in her success. “The Department of Teacher Education is bursting with pride over Redda Das,” said Dr. Leslie Keiler, chair of the department. “She is an outstanding role model, and we look forward to all she will achieve.”

Regina Misir, her advisor, added, “Redda’s recognition as salutatorian reflects her hard work. “What stands out most is her humility and respect for others,” Misir said.

Dr. Lindamichelle Baron also commended Das’s academic excellence and thoughtfulness. “She [has] demonstrated deep thinking and creativity in my courses,” Dr. Baron said. “Her work consistently reflected a passion for excellence.”

Baron also emphasized the broader impact of Das’s future in education. “Redda personifies the care, intellect, and dedication needed to change lives through teaching,” she said. “We are proud of the difference she is poised to make.”
