York College Homecoming 2025: A Celebration of Community and Legacies
The 2025 Homecoming celebration at York College, CUNY, brought together students, alumni, faculty, staff, and families for a week full of events designed to boost school spirit and community connection.

"As we gathered to celebrate the history of York College rooted in service and committed to providing access to quality higher education right here in Southeast Queens, we unite cultures and build a legacy for generations," said Dr. Jean Phelps, director of Student Activities.
From an exciting pep rally to a standout comedy show, the celebration captured what it truly means to be a York College Cardinal. Club Council President Altenor Molien emphasized the importance of bringing Homecoming to campus, sharing, "When Cardinals soar back home, we rise higher together united in pride and lifted by the wings of York College."
This year's "York Made, Cardinal Proud, Forever in Flight," fostered a renewed sense of unity during the October 21–24 festivities. The week began with student-athlete events, including the pep rally, Women's Soccer game, and a reception honoring the coaches and staff of York's 14 athletic teams. "I enjoyed recognizing all the men's and women's sports teams, looking forward to a winning season -- Cardinal Pride! Let's go!" said Lisa Ray of YCRadio.
Reflecting on York's 59-year history, Joery Francios of Student Activities noted, "From higher education and literacy to fashion, cuisine, and healthcare, our Cardinal alumni shared how York prepared them for their journey from college to career. The afternoon ended with networking, connecting, and strengthened support as we wrapped our wings around our current Cardinals."

Divine Legacy Day, held that Wednesday, welcomed alumni for an afternoon panel on the importance of Black and Latino Greek organizations, allowing former students to connect with current ones and revisit their time at York. That evening, the Male Initiative Program hosted a powerful One York Brotherhood session featuring alumnus Jeff Lindor.
"Esteemed alumnus Jeff Lindor allowed our students to practice their networking skills in real time," said Roosevelt Smith, Assistant Director of FYE & Mentoring. "It was encouraging to see so many faculty and staff present to support them."
The National Pan-Hellenic Council continued the momentum by hosting a lively Game Night that drew students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Alumna Jephane Toussaint of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, reflected, "Participating in the Divine Nine Legacy–Alumni Panel reminded me why Greek life matters on our campus. Homecoming is about leadership, service, and connecting with students walking the same path I once did."

Hopeton Allen, SEEK Program director, added, "As a proud graduate of York College, it was an honor to return home. York wasn't just a campus; it was a community that pushed me, shaped me, and prepared me to become the leader I am today," said Allen.
Friday night's Homecoming comedy show, curated by alumnus Anthony Garces (Class of 2014), served as a highlight of the week and a celebration of York's 59th Founder's Day. "I owe York College a lifelong debt of gratitude," Garces shared. "Some of my core memories come from the events I created or participated in while I was a student."
Homecoming Co-Chair Dr. Rachael Walton encourages everyone to join future events, highlighting how these gatherings showcase York's growth and community spirit.
