Erica Ford

Ms. Ford, a member of the York College Class of 1997, has spent more than 30 years as a human rights activist and anti-violence leader with an international profile. An in-demand speaker, including at her alma mater, Ford is the founder and CEO of Life Camp, Inc., the internationally recognized and widely respected peacemaking organization at the forefront of reducing youth and community violence in New York City and beyond.

She is credited with championing both personal and systemic approaches to conflict resolution worldwide. Through LIFE Camp, Inc.’s groundbreaking programs, she has empowered thousands of individuals and families to break cycles of violence and promote peace. Her nonviolent model for increasing public safety has been adopted and implemented by New York City, resulting in a 10% reduction in violence citywide.

This approach has drawn the attention of notable public figures, including former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former President Joseph Biden, Dr. Deepak Chopra, and Oprah Winfrey. Her respected leadership has also led to extensive travel and speaking engagements in prisons, community centers, high schools, college campuses (including York’s), and conferences across the globe.

York College congratulates Ms. Ford for her unwavering dedication to peace among youth and communities. It celebrates the proven methodology that has earned her this latest opportunity to share her expertise with the incoming administration.
