News Advisory: York College Commencement 2022
York College, CUNY's 52nd Commencement Exercises was an in-person event on June 2. 2022.
The Commencement ceremony took place at the UBS Arena at Belmont Park at 10 am.
At 1362-strong, the Class of 2022 is the college’s largest to date and will feature additional attendance from approximately 300 members of the Classes of 2020 and 2021 combined. The two preceding classes were given the opportunity to march with the 2022 members as their own commencements took place in the virtual space due to the COVID pandemic. Now they and their families will have the opportunity to revel in the in-person graduation experience with all the usual pomp and circumstance.
The Class of 2022 features graduates from across York’s nearly 60 academic majors and six graduate programs. Popular majors within the graduating class include Business Administration, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work (BSW & MSW), Accounting, Journalism, Aviation Business Management, Occupational Therapy (BS/MS), Pharmaceutical Science & Business, Pre-Med, Pre-Law, and Chemistry. The main student speaker will be Ms. Alvina Junaid, a Pakistani-American Social Work major.
In addition to President Eanes and Salutatorian Junaid, we are honored that CUNY Trustee Sandra Wilkin and others will also bring greetings. The college is also looking forward to its annual visits by local, state and federal elected officials congratulating the graduates and their families. Mrs. Patricia Chin, President and Co-founder of VP Records, located in Jamaica, Queens, will receive the (York) Presidential Award.
“I am delighted to be hosting the very first in-person commencement ceremony in my tenure at York College thus far,” said Dr. Berenecea Johnson, president of the Jamaica-based institution. “The 2020 and 2021 ceremonies took place via virtual platforms in keeping with state guidelines at the time. Now we will celebrate like our graduates deserve, in-person with protocols. I congratulate them all.”
