York Alum Graduates from Columbia with MSW
Washington’s article, “Mass Incarceration: Brief Overview Of the United States Criminal Market Economic System and Its Effects on Black and Brown Bodies,” was also published in the Spring 2018 edition of the Columbia Social Work Review, an intensely competitive opportunity for students in the one-year program.
Mr. Washington graduated with honors from York College in 2017, having earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Work with a minor in Sociology. While at York, Washington served as the Vice President of the S.W.E.E.T. (Social Work Empowering and Encouraging Together) Club; was a member of the Male Initiative Program, and served on the Social Work Department’s Advisory Board. He was remarkable not only for his involvement in community service but for annual presentations on policy concerns and/or reform during visits to local legislative representatives in Albany. Mr. Washington is now in the process of applying to Ph.D. programs before embarking on a full-time career in his field.
