Information Literacy (IL)

The York College Library offers an active Information Literacy program.
Information Literacy (IL)

York College Library's Information Literacy program utilizes the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards, with the following mission and goals:

  • educate students in proper use, evaluation and application of print and electronic resources
  • support research assignments and the College's curriculum, academic and special programs by focused library instruction
  • teach students the ethical use of information sources
  • motivate lifelong learners

We offer one-hour Information Literacy sessions, which are specifically tailored to the research assignment or project. These techniques are equally applicable to both general education and upper division courses in meeting the accreditation and discipline-specific standards compiled by CUNY's Library Information Literacy Advisory Council (LILAC). The sessions are taught by library faculty, many of whom have a subject specialty in a given area or areas. Sessions are held in the Library IL Computer Lab (AC-3G09), computer labs in Classroom Building, and Smartrooms in Academic Core Building.

To arrange for a class, please submit an online form. Please note the following policies:

1. Submit your online request form at least one week in advance.

2. Course instructor should stay with the class during the library session.

If you have any questions, please contact the Coordinator of Information Literacy, Prof. Di Su, at dsu@york.cuny.edu.
