Case for Unrestricted Support
The Fund for York: Case for Unrestricted Support
The Fund for York, is the lifeblood of the College as it is an unrestricted fund that leverages support for the College in a variety of ways. Unrestricted support makes it possible for the College to address financial emergencies without losing momentum in striving towards innovative programs. In the past, the friends of York have designated their support to scholarships or one of the three schools. Today we seek to amplify the impact on the student experience by asking our donors to grow with us as we strive towards a “margin of excellence.”
The College’s 8,000-plus student body mirrors the community’s rich racial and cultural diversity, representing 5 of the 7 continents across the globe, and speaking nearly 40 languages. Many of these students are “first-generation college goers,” the first in their families to pursue a bachelor’s degree. These students often encounter numerous challenges such as poor academic preparation, family commitments and responsibilities, and inadequate finances. York College stands above other institutions in recognizing students’ needs and supporting their success. Here, they are nurtured in an atmosphere of high expectations that enables them to earn their degrees well-prepared for graduate study and/or the workforce. Unrestricted philanthropic contributions fuel their dreams and ambitions; make it possible for the College to provide them with a world-class education.

Annual unrestricted giving is the most valuable gift to York because it allows us to allocate funds to the areas that are needed most. These areas include immediate scholarships, expansion of academic programs, faculty development, campus-wide technology access, and the upkeep of the campus and its classrooms.
