Psychology Major Barbara Krinksy, '80
I am Barbara Krinksy and I graduated with my BA in Psychology in June 1980. I would like to say that attending York college between 1977 and 1980 were perhaps the best years of my life.
The faculty took so much personal interest and time in helping me to achieve my goals that I believe because of them, I was able to overcome many obstacles and succeed with the plans I had for myself.
I went to Adelphi University after graduating York and earned my Masters Degree in Social Work and am now an LCSW and Director of an Adult Day Health Care Program in Queens, NY
At the time I was going to attend Adelphi, I had some anxiety about competing with students who had graduated from private colleges rather then a CUNY school as I had. It turned out that my education was far superior to many who had gone to some "fancy" colleges. I was tutoring these other students in statistics and research because of the excellent quality education and high caliber of Professors I had at York College.
I would like to share with you that I had returned to school at 31 years old and was the single mother of 2 small children struggling to get by on Welfare. Had it not been for the care, devotion and love of teaching that York's Professors had, I would not have been where I am today. They went beyond the call of duty and provided me with emotional support, sound advice and much encouragement. I cannot praise York College enough and felt absolutely compelled to write to you to share my most wonderful experience and memories.
Thank you very much for initiating this YCAN on Facebook. God Bless you and York College and everyone who was so knd to me.
