Office of Economic and Workforce Development

Mission Statement

The York College Office of Economic and Workforce Development will prepare program participants for higher education and 21st Century careers by providing high-quality instruction and services that lead to employment and/or higher education degrees.

The OEWD also helps to strengthen the operations of area businesses and orchestrates experiential learning opportunities for York students and program participants through StartUP NY, the SBDC, Continuing Education and the Learning Center.

To further its goals in South Queens, the OEWD partners with regional public and private economic and workforce development agencies and employers.  To gauge success, the OEWD will regularly monitor progress to ensure measurably increasing levels of positive outcomes for the community and region.

Continuing and Professional Education Center
The York College Continuing and Professional Education Center provides constituents with high quality non-credit courses--some leading to professional certifications, experiential learning opportunities, and scholastic and vocational support that help constituents realize their educational and career potential. To reach constituents, the Center partners with area K-12 institutions, community, business and social services organizations, as well as local elected and other government officials.

Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
Since our start in 1988, The New York Small Business Development Center at York College has achieved over $125 Million in economic impact through loans they helped their clients obtain. The expert advisers have worked with 14,468 businesses, and have created or saved 3,979 jobs.

York College is literally ready for business -- as an Empire State Development START-UP NY site, which enables new or existing companies to apply to New York State to participate in START-UP NY. If accepted, they can then apply to York College to participate in the College’s Campus Plan. Attached are the York College campus plan and priority areas for potential business partnerships.

York College Learning Center
