Creating calculated columns in the grading breakdown stated in your syllabus

This tutorial will show how to create calculated columns, each corresponding to one of the categories in the grading breakdown stated in your syllabus.

  1. In your Bb course, go to the Course Management section located below the Course Menu and click “Grade Center”. Then click “Full Grade Center”.                                                                                                    Go to Full Grade Center
  2. In the Full Grade Center view, go to the “Create Calculated Column” and choose “Weighted Column.”

  3. To mark that this column is weighted, let the name start with the percentage sign (%). For example, if you have 5 lab quizzes, then name of the calculated weighted column should be “% Lab Quizzes”.
  4. Ignore all other options, scroll down and click on "Submit," then on "OK" in the pop-up window.

Your calculated column has been create. It would be located all they way to the right-hand side. You may need to use a scrollbar.

Note: If you set YES to “Calculate as Running Total” here, enter “0” on cells where no assignment or test is submitted.

Repeat the above steps 2 - 4 for each of the top-level categories in your grading breakdown.

Congrats, you created the Calculate columns! Let's setup the weighing for each category in the “Weighted Total” column.
