GlobalCUNY 2015 Conference

The NYC Louis Stokes Alliance is happy to announce the GlobalCUNY 2015 Conference, scheduled for Friday November 20th at the City College of New York. GlobalCUNY 2015 is a one-day event with a focus on the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Now completing the 23rd year of activities across the City University of New York, the NYC Louis Stokes Alliance is an alliance of 17 CUNY Colleges and the Graduate Center of CUNY with the primary goal of substantially increasing the number of underrepresented minority students who pursue and graduate with Baccalaureate Degrees in STEM.

At present, the Alliance has had modest success in providing international research experiences for participating scholars. This is accomplished by 1) collaborating with existing programs within the NSF and other federal agencies, 2) working collaboratively with a core of mentors/faculty who have international collaborations, 3) working closely with departments, Institutes and Centers at CUNY who have international agreements, and significant international research focus, and 4) working collaboratively with the other Alliances across the country. The integration of a Study Abroad/International Research internship at the undergraduate and graduate level is increasingly being seen as a critical contributor towards the development of a globally competent scientific and engineering workforce.

GlobalCUNY is envisioned as a combination of a Research Colloquium and Expo, highlighting projects and programs underway across the university, with an international focus, and allows for the active participation/inclusion of STEM students.

GlobalCUNY is envisioned as a platform for collaborations, partnership development, and leveraging of university resources and expertise.

GlobalCUNY offers students the opportunity to have formal as well as informal conversations with Study Abroad/International Research participants and program managers throughout the day via oral and poster presentations, panel discussions and workshops.

GlobalCUNY highlights the mobility programs of the university, promote cross campus and cross discipline collaborations.

A component of the Urban University Series, GlobalCUNY seeks to bring together CUNY faculty, staff, students and partners, and is open to attendance/participation by the entire university community.
