Historian Carl Ballenas

Ballenas will take us back to the early 1900s when the first school in Queens for African-Americans and Native Americans was housed on what is now the campus of York College. Come learn how the family who ran the school played an important role in the battle for school desegregation in New York State, and what unknown questions--such as the location of the African burial ground--still remain.  Filled with rare photos and documents which were dug up by Ballenas and his students, this presentation is suitable for undergraduates, staff and faculty alike.
