Two New Counselors Join Student Development
Dr. Choi brings to the Student Development team a wealth of experiences in teaching and counseling. Having come most recently from St. John’s University, as an Adjunct Assistant professor in the Counseling Department, she taught courses in Child and Adolescent Psychopathology and Child Development Psychology. Previous to St. John’s, "Jay" was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Middle Tennessee State University where she taught a Counseling Practicum, Group Counseling, and Theories of Personality to name a few. At Hiram College in Ohio, she provided individual counseling, intake, and crisis intervention as well as serving as a consultant to student affairs staff, student support services and international student programs.
Dr. Choi earned her doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Akron. Her wealth of experience will add greatly to our team.
Dr. Smith brings to the Division of Student Development 14-plus years of teaching experience in Counseling, most recently from Teacher s College, Columbia University as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology and at St. Francis College. In addition to his responsibilities as a Counselor at John Jay College, he also developed and served as the Coordinator for Project P.R.O.V.E. (Project for Returning Opportunities in Veteran’s Education) and supervised MSW Interns assigned to the Project P.R.O.V.E. program. Dr. Smith’s primary responsibilities will be to provide leadership and direction for the Office of Veteran’s Affairs
Dr. Smith has an earned Doctorate of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University.
