What Is Expected Of You?
The 30 Point System
York College Radio is staff managed and student driven. We encourage students to take full advantage of the radio station. Students are encouraged to host their own shows. But to have a show all students must follow the 30 point system before they can host a show. The 30 point system is necessary, because it helps staff determine if the students is fit for the radio station. The 30 point system also gives new members of YCRadio.org an opportunity to be mentored by a experienced member of YCRadio.org
The 30 point system requires future hosts to volunteer at the York College Radio station by completing a variety of different tasks. The amount of time put in towards the operations of YCRadio determines the number of points received. When a student completes his/her required 30 points they become eligible for creating their own show, but the new member must still shadow the experienced host for a semester.
All YCRadio hosts are required to mentor a potential show host. The requirement for the mentee is to assist the host with preparation of their shows such as gathering information, co-hosting, social-media support and other reasonable requests made by either management or host.
Current and future members must also help with York College related events that YCRadio hosts such as Club Fairs, Student Orientation and more. The 30 Point System is waived for Faculty members.
Please see our Station Structure section for more information on each specific department's responsibilities.
