When is the deadline?

The deadline to submit applications for the Summer 2010 scholarship is March 15, 2010.  Applications must be hand-delivered or post-marked by that date.

Can I turn in my application after the deadline?

No. Due to the competitive nature of the scholarships, only applications submitted by the deadline will be considered.

Can I bring my application to the STOCS office?

Yes. The STOCS program office is located at 535 East 80th Street, New York, NY 10075.  The security desk will direct you the mail room where you can drop off applications.

How do I get to the STOCS office?

By subway, take the 6 line to 77th Street. Walk north to East 80th Street and then east to 535 East 80th (East End Avenue). Alternatively, take the M79 bus from points west in Manhattan to the corner of East 80th and East End Avenue.

How will I know if my application has been received?

Within a week of the application deadline (around March 15-22), the International Education will try to send confirmation emails to all applicants.  You may also email international.ed@mail.cuny.edu if you have not heard back within a week or two to confirm receipt of the application.

What is the most important part of the application?

The committee reviews your entire application equally. It is important that your personal statement is well written and addresses how your participation in this particular study abroad program will advance your personal, educational, and/or career goals. You may want to ask one of your professors or a tutor at your college's writing center to review your essay statement before you submit your application.

What is the minimum GPA?

There is no minimum GPA for a STOCS grant. However, all the STOCS-eligible study abroad programs require students to have a minimum GPA that varies from program to program.

When will I receive my money if I am awarded a STOCS grant?

The STOCS program will send the grant to the study abroad program after the award decisions have been made.  This typically happens within 3-4 weeks after the decisions are made.  Please check with your program director for specifics of how the award will be applied to the program and tuition cost.
