BLST102 (Liberal Arts) The Unforgiving Mirror: Race and Racism in Contemporary Society 3 hrs. 3 crs. This is a course about race and racism in the Americas, with particular emphasis on the Black experience in the U.S. We will make use of several approaches _ including critical race theory, the experiences of everyday people, and the politics of popular culture - to understand the institutional and structural power of racism, as well as the ways in which ordinary people have articulated extraordinary resistance to the material, social, and psychological effects of racism.
