In social services, I worked in crisis intervention, medical social work, youth outreach, and emergency care, but my main two practice areas were mental health and education. After earning the Master of Social Work degree in 1991, I worked at a group home for the chronically mentally ill and an outpatient psychiatric clinic, as a supervisor and program director. At the same time, I was teaching part-time and working on a doctorate degree. Upon receiving PhD from Yeshiva University, I joined York College where I reached the rank of Full Professor. With support of two Fulbright Scholar Awards, the accomplishments in the international social work arena included: launching and operating for ten years an MSW Program in Eastern Europe organizing multiple conferences to promote social work in post-Soviet countries and creating a system of social enterprises in rural areas of the Republic of Moldova. These activities were invariably accompanied by scholarship in the form of publications, seminars, and conference presentations with the content being consistently incorporated into pedagogies, both at York College and abroad.
