Carly Gieseler studies rhetoric and its implications for gender, media, and cultural studies. She earned her M.A. in Communication from Hawaii Pacific University and her B.A. in Journalism and Mass Media from Rutgers University; she earned her Ph.D. at the University of South Florida. Her doctoral dissertation, "Performances of Sexuality and Gender in Extreme Sports Culture", focuses on the intersection of gendered representation and marginalized performances in the cultural phenomenon of extreme sports. She has taught public speaking, intro to mass media, persuasion, and women and communication.
