Vilsaint Propels York to Third Straight CUNYAC Final
York College men's soccer standout Elysee Vilsaint (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/ South Shore) scored a pair of goals to lead the Cardinals to a 2-0 win over Medgar Evers College Saturday afternoon in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) men’s soccer semifinals.

The York College men’s soccer team defeated John Jay College, 1-0, in the final CUNY Athletic Conference contest of the 2009 regular season Wednesday.

Aviation Majors Complete Inaugural LeaderShape Institute
During the week of August 16-21, 2009, 37 students and seven staff members had the opportunity to be part of the first LeaderShape Institute in CUNY’s history. The program was sponsored through grant funding secured by the CUNY Aviation Institute at York College.

New Levinger Grant, More Student Research
Dr. Louis Levinger, a professor in York College’s Department of Biology, has received a National Institute of Health total award of $248,894 for a three-year period for the project, “Regulation on Substrate Binding and Catalysis in tRNase Z."
York Scientist Off To National Lab
Four years ago when Dr. Marcia V. Keizs became president of York College she branded the college as being, “on the move.” Dr. James Popp, an assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Physical Sciences, is the latest faculty member who has given literal meaning of sorts to that mantra, taking the York scholarship on the road.
York Reorganizes For Academic Excellence
In its 43-year history York College had never organized its academic departments into the Schools model as is de rigueur in many other institutions of higher learning. But Dr. Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith, provost and senior vice president of Academic Affairs, recently announced to the college community that the CUNY Board of trustees has approved York’s restructuring.

York to Add Women’s Tennis for the 2009 Season
JAMAICA, NY—The York College athletics department is pleased to announce the addition of women’s tennis to its program for the 2009 season. With the addition of women’s tennis, York will now have 16 sports competing in NCAA Division III competition.
Flashback, 1996: Library Journal "Talks to" Walter Cronkite as A Reporter's Life Is Published
In 1996, Associate Professor Glenn Lewis interviewed the legendary newscaster Walter Cronkite for Library Journal on the publication of Cronkite’s memoir, A Reporter’s Life. He was recently asked by Library Journal to update his original piece following Cronkite’s death July 17. Lewis has been promoted to professor which takes effect September 1.
Biology Professor Wins NIH Grant To Continue Research
Dr. Margaret MacNeil, an associate professor in the Department of Biology at York College, has received a four-year continuation of her grant, “The Shape and Circuitry of Neurons in the Retina," from the National Institute of Health (NIH), for nearly half a million dollars.
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at York College
President Marcia V. Keizs, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall and CUNY’s Vice Chancellor for Facilities Planning, Construction and Management Iris Weinshall (among other dignitaries) recently cut the ribbon for the official opening of Cardinal Walkway; the College’s newest pedestrian thoroughfare on the 50-acre campus.
