The York College women's track and field team won its third straight City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) championship Tuesday and they did it in dominating fashion. The Lady Cardinals squad amassed 231 team points, which was a remarkable 80 points more than the second place team, Lehman College, who finished with 151 points.
Sheryl Purrier, a Biology major, graduated with honors from York College in 2006; but she never left York. She continued to work in the lab of her mentor, Dr. Margaret MacNeil, on the prize-winning research paper, "The Organization for the Inner Nuclear Layer of the Cat Retina."

The York College men's volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (30-25, 30-24, 30-23) win over the City College of New York Tuesday to advance to the semifinals of the City University of New York Athletic Conference championships. York, who will make its first semifinal appearance since 2005, will take on Baruch College on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Baruch. The Bearcats defeated Medgar Evers College in their quarterfinal match.
York College student-athletes Justina Boatwright and Marcel Esonwune have each been honored by D3hoops.com this week. Boatwright was selected as the D3hoops.com Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year, while Marcel Esonwune was named to the Atlantic Region Second Team.
York College junior Alexandra Nkrumah has been named the 2008-09 CUNYAC Track Athlete of the Year and York head coach Thomas Pope has earned CUNYAC Coach of the Year Honors. In addition, juniors Taneisha Renaud and Shanine Bogan were named to the CUNYAC All-Star team. On the men’s side, sophomore Kenny Jacquet was tabbed as a CUNYAC All-Star as well. The conference office announced the awards Friday afternoon.
This year's Women in Aviation International (WAI) Conference welcomed 12 new attendees from York's Aviation Management program. WAI President and Founder Dr. Peggy B. Chabrian stated, "This Conference was a celebration of 20 years of Women in Aviation conferences, and a rededication of our commitment to look forward by providing career opportunities for women in all aspects of the aviation community while looking back to recognize and honor the accomplishments of the determined women who made today's accomplishments and career choices possible."

JAMAICA, NY- The York College men's basketball team defeated Hunter College Sunday to advance to the semifinals of the CUNY/ Con Edison Basketball Championships. The Cardinals will now battle rival Brooklyn College on Wednesday at CCNY at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are free but are limited. They can be picked up at the athletic office, located in the health and physical education building.
