York to Add Women’s Tennis for the 2009 Season

JAMAICA, NY—The York College athletics department is pleased to announce the addition of women’s tennis to its program for the 2009 season. With the addition of women’s tennis, York will now have 16 sports competing in NCAA Division III competition.

The Lady Cardinals squad will play a limited schedule in 2009, playing a full conference schedule along with a few non-conference matches.  Men’s tennis coach, Greg Jackson, will take on the coaching duties for the women’s’ team as well.

“There has been a demand for women’s tennis around campus for a few years now so we decided to move forward with it,” said Athletic Director Ronald St. John.  “Hopefully it will be the first of many sports to be added in the future.”

The team’s first match is tentatively scheduled for September 10 vs. John Jay.
