CUNYAC Basketball Quarterfinals Set for this Weekend

The seedings for the 2009 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships were announced Tuesday afternoon.

York Men to Host Hunter; Women Host Brooklyn for CUNYAC Basketball Quarterfinals

The York College men’s basketball team, with a 10-3 conference record, has earned the third seed and will host sixth-seeded Hunter College on Sunday, February 22 at 5:00 p.m.  The women’s team, with a 5-8 CUNYAC mark, is the five seed and will travel to fourth-seeded Brooklyn College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Both teams came on strong to finish the season and look to carry that momentum into the playoffs.  After starting the season 0-11, the women have gone 8-5 the rest of the way to finish with a record of 8-16.  Meanwhile, the men enter the tournament red hot, winners of eight straight and a record of 13-12 on the season.

The men’s team is looking to take its fourth CUNYAC title, while the women are in search of its first crown.

Should they advance, the men will move onto the semifinals against the winner of Brooklyn College and John Jay College on Wednesday, February 25 at the City College of New York at a time to be announced.  Should the women win, they would move on to face the winner of Baruch College and Medgar Evers College on Tuesday, February 24 at CCNY, at a time to be announced.

Admission is free to all CUNYAC playoff games.  Directions to Brooklyn College can be found at: http://www.brooklyncollegeathletics.com/sports/2007/5/21/directions.aspx?tab=directions
