Timely Notification Bulletin – Cell Phone Theft
On Friday, September 19th, around 11:45 in the morning, as a student was about to enter the campus through the 160th Street gate of the A-Core building a male youth wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, with a black backpack coming from the direction of Archer Ave approached her from behind as she was entering the Academic Core. The female student subsequently had her cell phone snatched from her by the male youth, who then fled south on 160th Street towards South Road.

The Public Safety Department implores all members of the campus community to take extra care in their personal travels to and from campus areas. Please be responsible for your own personal security. Listed below are some guidelines for safe travel in the South Jamaica areas:
1. Do not walk and talk while holding a cell phone, ipod or CD player in your hand! Use a hands free device for your cell phone.
2. Be observant. Make sure that you are aware of your environment.
3. Keep your head up and don't be afraid to make eye contact with people.
4. Travel with a group of people familiar to you.
5. Travel in high traffic, well-lit areas of the street.
6. If you feel threatened, quickly enter any entrance to York College and report the incident to the Public Safety Officer at the ID Post located at that entrance.
7. Do not stop to engage in conversations with strangers’ en route to your destination.
8. If you encounter any act of theft, or harassment do not expose yourself to harm. Commit the identity/description to memory, allow them to leave and report the incident immediately to the Public Safety Department.
Please help us, help you by following these suggestions. Additionally security works best collectively, whether it involves you or your fellow co-worker or classmates. If you “SEE IT, REPORT IT!” We are working to resolve all security issues in and around this campus.
