Inaugural Economic Forum Hosted at York
Some participants arrived as early as 8:30 a.m. in anticipation of the day's events. Many questions were directed to representatives from Neighborhood Housing of Jamaica, Inc. The Department of Labor and York's Small Business Development Center were also on hand to provide information, words of welcome and encouragement to the attendees.
The workshops hosted by organizations like Amalgamated Bank and Prudential were heavily attended. It was standing room only at the Mortgage Program workshop hosted by Citibank. And the Job Search workshop was so informative that the attendees missed the wrap up session (hosted by Century 21) in hopes of getting a one-on-one discussion with William H. Burgess III of The Burgess Group, who lead the class.
The event was also the kick-off of York College's Free Tax Preparation Assistance Program, spearheaded by Assistant Accounting Professor and York College alumnus Robert Clovey.
There were many words of appreciation and inquiries from the audience about the date for the next Economic Forum. The consensus was that this was a much needed event for the Southeast Queens community.
